In my opinion, stand-up comedy is the purest form of entertainment.

Someone just talking...whether telling a true story or offering their own insight or take on a subject, while making me laugh, is about as pure as it gets. I have been a fan of stand-up comedy since Steve Martin first blew my mind with his unique style.

I 'discovered' Dusty Slay on YouTube and I believe he is simply brilliant.  His humor is 'safe for work' and I had the opportunity to meet him at a show here in Atlanta...such a great guy.  Now that the pandemic is over (Am I allowed to say that?) Dusty's calendar is quite full.  Go see him if you have the chance.

In the meantime, here's a sample from one of his appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:

I became aware of Heather Maloney when her 'No Shortcuts' video popped up during a YouTube binge.  It was her performance on e-Town .  While I love the lyrics it was the pure joy expressed when the song was done that really captured my attention.

Heather is one of the most intelligent writers I have come across in a long, long time.  I am a sucker for lyrics that make me think, "Wow, I wish I could have thought of that." and Heather does this time and time again.

Not only am I captivated by her lyrics, but also her voice.  Her control is so tight and strong but she never 'shows off'...but one can tell,  vocally, she operating with horsepower to spare.

Holy cow...meet my two newest favorite people in the entire world.

Rebecca & Megan Lovell are 'Larkin Poe' a Roots Rock 'n' Roll group full of grit, soul and flavored by their southern heritage. They have been called the little sisters of the Allman Brothers and deservedly so. Do yourself a favor, pour a cup of fresh coffee, sit back and check our their gazillion videos on YouTube and their Facebook Page. Trust me...if you like music, you will thank me later.

I 'discovered' Escondido on the pages of one of my favorite magazines 'Garden & Gun' and if I had their debut albun on vinyl, I would have worn out the grooves by now.

Escondido is Nashville, TN based artists Jessica Maros and Tyler James. Recorded live in a single day, their 10-song debut album was released Feb 26, 2013.  Their sound is a washed out desert landscape steeped in American roots music and much like movie theater popcorn, once I start, I can't stop.

“If Clint Eastwood’s Man with No Name stepped into a vintage El Camino and turned on the radio, Escondido would come blaring out of the speakers." - Garden & Gun

It has been a long, long time since I have been as excited about a musical 'find' as I am about The Avett Brothers.   I 'discovered' them on Pandora and continue to be blown away by the integrity, honesty and uniqueness that is their music.

If you are a music fan and have not heard of them before now, check them out on YouTube. Or, go to iTunes and you can sample a good minute plus of each song.

I finally got to see them here in Atlanta (Verizon Amphitheater) and it was an unreal show.  I have pretty much quit going to large shows mostly but this one was so worth it.
